Heavy rains lash Delhi, Gurgaon: story in 5 points
1. Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi leaving several areas waterlogged and massive traffic jams in the wee hours, stranding people on the roads.
2. Places hit by massive traffic congestion due to water-logging include Moti Bagh, Wazirabad, Pragati Maidan, Azad Market, the stretch between IIT-Delhi and Munirka. Areas near Chirag Dilli, Punjabi Bagh, Karol Bagh, Dwarka, Shastri Park, Seelampur, Ghazipur, Najafgarh, the Nangloi-Mundka road, the Dhaula Kuan flyover, Greater Kailash II market, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Barapullah flyover towards DND, Ashram Chowk, Ring Road Maharani Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan also witnessed water-logging.
3. Traffic snarls reported on roads heading to Gurgaon, which came to a standstill. Gurgaon had experienced a similar situation only last month.
4. US secretary of state John Kerry's proposed visit to three religious sites -- Gauri Shankar temple, Jama Masjid and Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib in the old Delhi area – was canceled due to heavy rains.
5. The Met department said the city received 3.9 mm rain till 8.30 a.m. Early morning flights were also delayed.
