264 weddings on a single day! Guruvayur sets new record

Guruvayur: The famed Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple made history Sunday by being a witness to 264 weddings. It was two years ago in the month of Chingam that the temple had seen 226 weddings, its earlier record.

The temple was replete with the kith and kin of brides and bridegrooms. The wedding ceremony started as early as 5 in the morning in the three distinct temple porches. As many as 200 weddings took place between 8 am and 11 am which was marked as an auspicious time period for Sunday. With a large groups of people assembled around the temple's Kalyana mandapa, it was with great difficulty that the couple were guided to the mandapa for the ceremony.

The photo sessions were rushed, while every other couple tried to strike a pose near the flower carpet laid out in front yard of the temple. As a result of the massive number of weddings that took place, the register office in the township was extremely crowded on Sunday.
