ATM skimming: woman loses Rs 56,000 in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: In a case of ATM fraud, Ashwathi an assistant professor with NSS college in Niramankara, lost Rs 56,000.
According to the police, the money was withdrawn outside the country through Internet banking system. The money was found to have been withdrawn on September 5 and 6 from the State Bank of Travancore (SBT) account of the teacher hailing from Pattom near here.
The bank has informed that those who lost money in the ATM fraud will be compensated on the 19th of this month.
The Medical College police have filed a case in the incident and initiated a probe.
The money was withdrawn through more than three stages. According to the officials, the money was withdrawn using point of sale (POS) machine, which is used to receive payments through ATM cards at business centers, at 9.30 am, 9.32 am, 9.34 am on September 5. The SBT also have initiated a probe into the incident.
